La Trastienda Club
Located at Balcarce 460, in the heart of the Monserrat neighborhood, La Trastienda serves as a meeting point for the performing arts in central Buenos Aires. This venue, which falls within the café-concert tradition, is a space dedicated to artistic events, with a particular focus on music concerts. Its presence in the area places it in a setting of considerable historical and cultural density, near landmarks such as the Casa Rosada and the Convento de Santo Domingo.
Identity and history
The venue’s history has two defining moments that shape its current character. Although its origins date back to an inauguration in September 1979, the space as it is known today pivoted in December 1993, when it reopened. Since then, it has maintained its format as a live performance venue, establishing itself as a stage with capacity for up to 700 people. This scale allows for closeness between artist and audience, a hallmark of the club and café-concert format.
The cultural setting in Monserrat
The context in which La Trastienda is embedded is key to understanding its dynamic. Situated at the intersection of areas with a strong heritage character, the venue is part of the cultural fabric connecting the San Telmo district with the historic city center. Its proximity to significant governmental and religious buildings — such as the Casa Rosada, located some 550 meters to the north — integrates the club into a circuit that combines institutional activity with the nightlife and artistic scene of the capital.
The experience inside the venue centers on an array of musical and artistic offerings. Operating under a club format, the space provides an environment where music is the central axis, allowing different genres to find a platform in a controlled setting with the technical infrastructure suited to live performances.
