Cerro Perito Moreno
Cerro Perito Moreno is a peak in the Andes mountain range situated about 25 kilometers northwest of El Bolsón, in the province of Río Negro. With a maximum elevation of 2,294 meters above sea level, this point in the Patagonian region functions as a central hub for mountain activities, integrated into the landscape of glacial valleys that characterize the far southwest of the province.
Seasonal dynamics and activities
The offerings at the cerro vary according to the time of year, adapting to the area’s climatic cycles. During the winter season, the site operates as a ski and snowboard center, providing infrastructure for snow sports including alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, and sledding. The presence of lifts allows access to the slopes, facilitating sport practice in a high-mountain setting.
In the summer months, activity shifts toward using the terrain for trekking and snowshoe hikes, depending on ground conditions. The surroundings also allow for horse riding and wildlife and native flora observation, making use of the biodiversity typical of Andean forests.
Natural surroundings and geography
The cerro sits within a geographic context marked by its proximity to localities such as Mallín Ahogado and its relationship with the El Bolsón valley. The structure of the terrain, characterized by its slopes and altitude, defines both the technical routes for skiers and the hiking trails. The presence of mountain refuges allows for extended stays and longer activities within the mountain system.
The cerro’s location, near the Azul and Quemquemtreu rivers that cross the region, connects it directly to the glacial valley ecosystem of the area. This physical setting determines the range of snow sports on offer and the possibilities for natural exploration during the summer season.
