Huentala Wines

Wine producer in Valle de Uco focused on the expression of calcareous soils and mountain climates.

El Peral , Mendoza

Located in the heart of Gualtallary, within the Valle de Uco, Huentala Wines is a winery centered on the expression of high-altitude wines. The project, rooted in the La Isabel Estate, draws on the extreme conditions of this part of Mendoza to develop wines that reflect an ancient soil and a mountain climate. The proposal rests on a terroir characterized by its calcareous and stony composition, where altitude and the influence of the Cordillera de los Andes define the profile of what is produced here.

Identity and product

The winery’s production focuses on the distinctive character of its soils, particularly those with limestone presence. A notable example is the Huentala Calizo, a wine whose name directly references the mineral properties of the Gualtallary soil. Winemaking, under the technical direction of José ‘Pepe’ Morales, aims to capture the purity and essence of this corner of Mendoza. The processes are shaped by the region’s wide diurnal temperature range, where days of intense solar radiation and cool mountain nights allow the grapes to reach a phenolic ripeness balanced with persistent acidity.

The Gualtallary surroundings

The estate sits in a highly regarded winegrowing zone, where soils present compositions of clay, sand, and rock. The winery relies on snowmelt from the Cordillera to irrigate its vineyards, integrating water management with the history of the land. Work on the slopes of Gualtallary makes each bottle a testament to the effort of understanding a complex ecosystem, where altitude and westerly winds play a crucial role in the structure of the resulting wines.

Winery experience

The offering for visitors includes the possibility of exploring the vineyards and the estate at their own pace, allowing a direct connection with the viticulture process. The experience centers on tasting its labels, designed to showcase the identity of the Valle de Uco. It is a space aimed at those who want to understand the logic behind high-altitude wines and learn how the stony composition and extreme climate of the Tunuyán area shape the character of each cultivated variety.
