With over two decades of continuous operation in San Martín de los Andes, Lanin Turismo y Aventura is one of the most established agencies in Argentina’s northern Patagonia. Registered as an official tour operator (EVT, Leg. 11495), it brings together adventure activities and classic excursions that define what it means to visit the Lanín National Park region.

The offering covers two fronts. The first takes a scenic and cultural approach: full-day or half-day outings along the Seven Lakes Route, to Lanín Volcano and Lake Huechulafquen, into the thermal springs at Queñi or Lahuenco, to the Mapuche community of Villa Quila Quina, or across the Andes to Pucón and Huilo Huilo in Chile. For travelers with more time, the Ruta de los Volcanes links Argentina and Chile over five days, and the Descubriendo Patagonia Norte circuit covers six destinations in as many days.

The second front — and the agency’s most recognized offer — is adventure sport. Rafting on the Chimehuin River is the flagship activity: Lanin Turismo operates the descent directly and maintains its own base on the riverbank, which sets it apart from other local agencies that subcontract the service. The Chimehuin flows about forty minutes from San Martín, with the cone of Lanín Volcano as a visual landmark throughout the drive. The raft descent lasts over ninety minutes and threads through a sequence of rapids and pools with their own names — Boca del Lobo, Pozón de las Viudas, Pared del Viento, La Herradura — on a free-flowing, undammed river that changes character with the seasons. Snowmelt in October pushes waves up to two meters; by January and February the river drops, the run becomes more technical through boulders and channels, and the water reaches more comfortable temperatures. Difficulty ranges from grade 3 at its peak to grade 2 in midsummer, making it accessible for families and beginners without losing appeal for those after more action.

Beyond the Chimehuin, the adventure catalog includes kayaking and packrafting on the region’s lakes and rivers, mountain biking through the Andes, horseback riding, and ascents of local summits including Falkner, Achen Niyeu, and Colorado — the last of which also runs as a winter climb. During the cold season, the agency adds snowshoe hikes, Nordic or backcountry skiing, and transfers and passes for the Chapelco ski center. Corporate and school groups have dedicated programs under a MICE format; a gear rental shop rounds out the services.

High season runs from December to March, when most activities operate at full frequency, though several departures are available year-round. Safety equipment — helmet, life vest, neoprene wetsuit, and waterproof jacket — along with personal accident insurance are included with all water activities. Departures pick up directly from the traveler’s accommodation.
