Playa Escondida
Located in a secluded sector of Mar del Plata, Playa Escondida stands as the first officially authorized naturist beach in Argentina. Its origins trace back to mid-2000, when an initiative put forward by the Ente Municipal de Turismo de General Pueyrredón led to the establishment of a nudist area under a municipal ordinance. Since it opened in February 2001, the site has built a core following of visitors arriving from across the country, looking for an atmosphere removed from conventional urban rhythms.
Natural Setting and Biodiversity
The landscape of this area is defined by its rugged character. Its geographic location, far from dense urban centers, allows the water quality to meet international microbiological standards comparable to European Union criteria for bathing waters. The site has been the subject of interventions aimed at strengthening its ecosystem; in recent years, more than 300 new plant species were introduced to enrich the green areas of the property. This landscaping effort seeks to integrate the infrastructure with local vegetation, fostering an environment where nature takes center stage.
The management of the site is governed by principles of ecological responsibility, adhering to the Plan Nacional de Políticas de Calidad para Playas (IRAM standard 42100). This commitment involves resource management measures and an environmentalist awareness aimed at preserving the balance of the natural surroundings in the face of visitor activity. The site’s layout includes landscaped terraces with sun loungers designed for observing the coastline, allowing direct connection with the shore.
Experience on the Grounds
A visit to Playa Escondida unfolds in a space that combines basic services with an infrastructure designed for rest. The area offers food and drink options that have evolved over time, including a terrace at the bar Virazon with a covered deck and a lounge section facing the sea. This layout is designed to facilitate contemplation of the coastal landscape while using the complex’s services.
Walking through the beach allows passage through carefully tended vegetation areas and open stretches facing the sea. Although the site has no accommodation facilities, its configuration is intended for those looking for a day of contact with the natural environment in a controlled and safe setting. The presence of elements such as a first-aid kit and emergency communication systems complement the offering of a space that prioritizes calm and respect for naturist codes of conduct.
