Capilla Del Monte , Cordoba

Location and access

Diques El Cajón is approximately 1 km from the center of Capilla del Monte, in the heart of the sierras of the Valle de Punilla, province of Córdoba. The area falls within the Rivadavia neighborhood and sits near the El Zapato tourist complex, making it one of the most accessible stops in the area without having to venture far from town.

The place

The site comprises a reservoir surrounded by mountain scenery. From the dam wall it is possible to take in the water on one side and, looking the other way, views toward El Paraíso — a combination that lends itself well to photography. The surroundings also include rock formations of considerable size, reachable on foot from the dam area.

Families visiting with young children should take care in the rocky sections, where the terrain can be uneven and has some elevation changes.

Activities

The area is primarily intended for outdoor leisure. Common activities include walks around the surroundings, fishing, and taking in the mountain scenery. No specialized equipment is needed for a casual visit; comfortable footwear and sun protection are sufficient.

The rocky formations that line the dam offer elevated vantage points with panoramic views of the reservoir and the mountain landscape, and are frequently used for photography.

Context in Capilla del Monte

Capilla del Monte is a tourist town in the Valle de Punilla known for its mountain surroundings, rivers, and swimming spots, and for being the gateway to Cerro Uritorco — 1,979 m high and considered the sixth Natural Wonder of the province of Córdoba. Diques El Cajón is part of the collection of natural attractions spread around the town, alongside other spots such as Paso del Indio, Los Paredones, and Agua de los Palos.

The region has a temperate climate: summers are warm with cool nights, while spring and autumn bring more moderate temperatures — seasons when hiking and outdoor activities are particularly comfortable.
