Parque del Conocimiento

Posadas , misiones

Inaugurated on December 7, 2007, the Parque del Conocimiento (Knowledge Park) is the most ambitious cultural project in the province of Misiones and one of the largest in Argentina. Since its opening, the complex — widely known as the Centro del Conocimiento — has transformed access to culture, science, and the arts across northeastern Argentina, guided by the founding principle inscribed at its creation: knowledge equalizes us and gives us the same opportunities.

The campus occupies more than 25 hectares at the western entrance to Posadas, along National Route 12, meters from the airport and fifteen minutes from the historic city center. Eight buildings spread across a landscaped park with native vegetation and an artificial lake, forming a cultural city unmatched in scale anywhere else in the Argentine Northeast.

At the heart of the complex is the five-story main building, home to the Lyric and Drama Theater, the Art Center, and the Public Library of Misiones (BPM). The theater houses the resident artistic companies: the Chamber Orchestra, the Classical Ballet, the Folkloric Ballet, and the institutional Choir, which offer regular seasons of music, dance, and theater throughout the year. The building’s basement levels accommodate set design and construction workshops, book and painting restoration labs, and rehearsal rooms for the various artistic disciplines.

The Art Center occupies the west wing and features four rotating exhibition rooms showcasing regional, national, and international artists. Guided visits incorporate play-based activities linked to current exhibitions, designed for school groups and general audiences alike.

The Public Library of Misiones, in the east wing, is the province’s main public library. Its online catalog and documentary services are publicly accessible, and institutional visits include a tour of the various reading rooms.

On the same grounds, the Astronomical Observatory of Misiones offers sessions combining an introductory museum, access to the dome, and an explanation of the main telescope. On clear evenings, guided astronomical observation sessions take place — an uncommon experience in the region.

The IMAX del Conocimiento is the only large-format cinema in the province. It screens mainstream 3D releases and cultural programming, with a screen that turns nature and science documentaries into an immersive experience hard to find elsewhere in the Northeast.

The Conectar Lab rounds out the park’s educational offering with laboratories dedicated to robotics, programming, design, digital art, and science. The space is primarily aimed at students and young visitors, but also receives organized adult groups.

For larger events, the Convention Center provides a 700-person auditorium and three exhibition pavilions of more than 5,000 m² each, hosting regional and national trade fairs, congresses, and exhibitions.

The Parque del Conocimiento is managed by Sociedad del Conocimiento SAPEM, a provincial mixed-economy state enterprise. The institution also houses the Editorial de las Misiones (provincial publishing house) and the Regional Heritage area, consolidating its role as a living archive of Misionero cultural identity.
